Terviseportaal is the main digital gateway to people’s health and medical data and services — the platform that brings together everything the Estonian public sector offers: prescriptions and appointments, test results and examinations, screenings and more.
A service like this is a massive undertaking to redesign and develop, so a team of four partners was formed to see it come to fruition.
Our responsibility was not only to create a better user experience, but also to design a new identity for the platform.
The team set out to completely redo the old platform formerly known as “Digilugu”. It was built ages ago and its user experience was strongly criticised. Alongside a better experience, the old code base and logic had to be rewritten to a modern approach, so the platform could adapt to whatever comes next.
Early on we agreed that a new platform also needs a new approach to identity — not only in the UI, but in visual communication in general. It started as “let’s make a logo” and grew into a full brand identity with a communication-based approach.
Together with the IGLU design team we designed the platform’s new interface. The challenge was taking the old functionality and data and giving it a better UX, while adhering to VEERA — the design system framework behind all Estonian government digital platforms.
